So you get the "Out of Memory" error when you render or try to output in FCP 7. Here are the reasons.
1. Your still images are too big. Resize them so that either dimention isn't over 4000 pixels.
2. Everything is resized but you still get the error, you just need to restart FCP. Quite FCP and relaunch.
3. You have a mix of still image formats in the timeline. All your images should be just one type of format if you can help it. JPEG, Tiff, or PNG are always prefered over others. Of course you can still use PSD and PDF files.

FCP X! What a monster! And a good monster, I mean. Like from Monsters Inc? Big Cudly, and really scary powerful. It took just over 4 hours to key, place in backgrounds, and make minor color adjustments to a whopping 127 episodes of Making It Click!
Final Cut Pro X made this possible because 1) Ok, I lit and shot it correctly with a camera that uses 4:2:2 color space and 2) FCP X Keyer is just plain smart! I had very little to do once I droped in the keyer. Only used "fill in holes" and in some cases a little spill suppression. Not only that I got through Led Zepplin's Houses of the Holy, Led Zeppelin 4, and the first disk of the box set. Not bad.
Making it Click is a new web series coming to you and it will help you get your work and website more visibiltiy on the web. SEO services at it's best!
Check back for more updates coming soon.

Without really knowing how to transcode oodles of GoPro footage, I just stuck it in FCP X and hit "Optimize". A couple of hours later I had all that MP4 footage in ProRes ready to Edit. I can say this at least, FCP X is really, really, really good at transcoding footage in the backgroud. Whistle while you work too...

I recently tried to update my FCP X from 10.0.0 to 10.0.1. I opened the App Store to find those updates. Since I had Compressor 4 and Motion 5 the updates were included and was available to download. But FCP X was not. After digging around the app store I saw in Purchaces that Final Cut Pro X was availabe to install. So I did the logical thing and clicke install. Logically the App store warned me with the usual warning sign, You have already downloaded this program. So I simply deleted the old Final Cut Pro X and went back to the App Store and clicked download one more time. To my delight, FCP X 10.0.1 was begining to download.
All is well!

The folks over at Apple have just realeased a major update to FCP X 10.0.1 , Motion 5.0.1 and Compessor 4.0.1. Looks like some of those folks who really needed XML support and project events now can be edited on the XSAN.
You see....They were just a bit behind folks. They're getting there. I've been using FCP X and it works great for a lot of things. Not everything now, but with the new media stems export, I'd say Apple was not only listening to the editors but they're also looking at what the assistants have to do on a daily basis. Hours spent trying to figure out what sound is what has never looked so good!
Here is the link to the Apple website for the updates:

A couple of other goodies in there too.

Here is a great article from CrumplePop, the folks who gave FCP users some great effects like Shrink Ray, a look most famously seen in The Social Network.
I seriously think the proof is in the pudding here.

In my experience, and it's not as vast as some, Apple always falls short. Users always find a way and users always prevail. I'm happy Apple has a 64bit application and it's usable for now. Besides, it's good to keep things fresh and always learning new things. Otherwise our brains get grey.
